Student Support

 

Dean of Students:

The Dean of Students strives to assist students as they progress toward a future career and a lifetime of learning. This office is dedicated to supporting TAMU-CC students who may need assistance in resolving complex personal and academic matters. We provide an array of information; connect students to appropriate resources and serves as an advocate for all students.  The office will notify faculty when a student is absent for an extended period of time (more than 3 days)  due to personal illness, death in the family or other emergency type situations that may arise. 

The Dean of Students oversees the Associate Dean of Students office which manages Judicial Affairs and the Behavior Intervention Team (ICARE).

 

Associate Dean of Students: 

The Associate Dean of Students at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi serves as an advocate for students and is committed to the development and success of all students. Through I-CARE and Student Conduct & Community Standards, the OADS is dedicated to fostering a safe and supportive environment for students to learn and strive through student outreach services, educational experiences, and trainings that promote civic and social responsibility. OADS works to ensure fairness and to protect the rights of students while promoting civility, integrity, and respect for others. OADS seeks to establish and maintain partnerships with campus and community stakeholders to enhance learning and to build a supportive and inclusive environment for students. Student Conduct and Community Standards

I-CARE:

I-CARE (Islander Consultation, Advisement, Review & Evaluation) Team is a part of the office of the Associate Dean of Students and is TAMU-CC’s behavioral intervention team for students of concern.  The purpose of the I-CARE team is to provide a centralized system for faculty, staff, and students to report concerns regarding students exhibiting distressed and/or high-risk behaviors that may not fall under the Student Code of Conduct, and to ensure a timely and coordinated University response.  The I-CARE Team meets on a regular basis and comprise of representatives from the following areas: Office of Student Engagement and Success, University Counseling Center, Disability Services, Student Conduct & Community Standards, University Police Department, Camden Miramar Housing, faculty member and TAMUS Legal Counsel (for consultation as needed).  I-CARE is not designed to deal with cases of immediate threats to the safety of the student and/or others.  In these cases, the University Police Department should be contacted directly.    icare.tamucc.edu

 

Career Services:  

Career Services provides academic support by helping students explore, select, prepare for, and actively pursues satisfying employment and careers.  Career Services offers career counseling, career exploration, assessments, student employment services, job fairs, on-campus recruiting, internships, job shadowing, mock interviewing, resume development and review, on-line job bank and career seminars.  career-services.tamucc.edu

 

Disability Services: 

The Disability Services (DS) Office coordinates services and academic adjustments for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi students with disabilities to ensure equal access to facilities, programs, services and resources of the university.  Students seeking exam accommodations, sign language interpreters, note-taking services, textbooks in alternate formats (i.e. digital text, audio, Braille), Assistive Technology and other academic adjustments should be referred to the Disability Services office to establish eligibility to receive accommodations. Disability Services also serves as a liaison between faculty and staff regarding disability related questions as well as works toward enhancing disability awareness and access throughout campus.    disabilityservices.tamucc.edu

 

University Counseling Center: 

The University Counseling Center provides counseling, consultation and educational outreach services to students who are experiencing stress due to academic, personal or career issues.  Short-term individual and group counseling, as well as assessment and crisis intervention services, are provided by licensed counselors. A Counselor-on-Duty is available each day to provide triage and assessment of students requesting services, immediate consultation to faculty, staff and parents concerned about a student, and crisis intervention as necessary.  An after-hours counselor is available to students by phone.  In addition, psychiatric services are available on a limited basis.     counseling.tamucc.edu

 

University Health Center: 

The University Health Center supports students’ academic success by treating illness, promoting optimal wellness, and educating students on how to make informed decisions about their health related concerns. Quality healthcare is provided in a confidential, supportive environment through a collaborative approach between a licensed staff of nurses, nurse practitioners, a physician and the community.  The types of visits most frequently provided at the Health Center are the Health Promotion and Counseling visits (e.g., sick visits, labs, prescription requests, consults, results and follow-up visits) and Infectious Disease visits.  An after hours Nurse hotline is available for consultations at 361-825-2601.    healthcenter.tamucc.edu

 

Strategic Engagement Initiatives

Engagement Initiatives:  

Engagement Initiatives oversees prevention and inclusion programming on campus.  They advise the Islander’s Teaching, Engaging and Motivating (I-TEAM) Peer Educators to offer alcohol and other drug education, as well as other prevention and intervention initiatives.  Prevention Programs also works with the Coalition on Substance Abuse (CoSA) to analyze trends and recommend strategic, evidence based recommendations for campus prevention. The office also oversees the Inclusion Programming and the Inclusive Islander Network, which strives to “cast a net of compassion” campus-wide in an effort to create an inclusive campus environment.    More information about all office initiatives can be found at ei.tamucc.edu

 

Islander Housing: 

Islander Housing coordinates on-campus student housing at Miramar and Momentum Village.  The department works with our on-campus housing partner to provide quality housing and a residence life program that helps develop students in all areas of the wellness wheel.  Islander Housing also assists students needing off-campus accommodations and works with the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) in providing bus services to all students.   housing.tamucc.edu

 

Strategic Planning and Assessment:

Strategic Planning and Assessment (SPA) provides leadership in strategic planning, assessment and evaluation to the Division of Student Engagement and Success.  The office is overseen by the Executive Director of Strategic Engagement Initiatives, with the assistance of a committee composed of departmental representatives.  Staff from the various division departments will visit the office frequently regarding planning and continuous improvement efforts. SPA resources can be found at spa.tamucc.edu. 

 

Student Life

Recreational Sports: 

The Recreational Sports department provides facilities, equipment and opportunities for participation in a variety of sports, recreational and social activities designed to accommodate all ages, skill levels, gender and sport interest for the University community. Participation facilitates educational interaction outside of the classroom among students, faculty and staff. University Center & Student Activities: 

The University Center and Student Activities (UCSA) department’s purpose is to foster a healthy academic climate and professional atmosphere which promotes and encourages student leadership, learning, and growth.  The office serves to improve the quality of life on campus through activities, programming and student employment. The programs and activities fit the needs of the students through interpersonal and leadership development, by providing campus entertainment, and encouraging students to become involved in organizations and activities. The University Center serves as the “living room” of the campus and strives to be a place where students, faculty, and staff can interact, learn and laugh with one another. Programming areas include: Campus Activities Board, Islander Cultural Alliance, I-Leads, University Council of Student Organizations (UCSO), Aloha Days (Freshman Camp), Greek Life, Island Waves Student Newspaper, Alternative Spring Break, Homecoming, Waves of Welcome, Student Volunteer Connection, University Center Scheduling & Reservations.      studentactivities.tamucc.edu
